About The Session

Bringing mentoring into any coaching session is hard to do well. It may bring the client more quickly to decisions and actions, but risks short-cutting coachee’s own agency and needed growth.

However, when done thoughtfully and with respect for the coachee’s autonomy, integrating mentoring into coaching sessions can be highly beneficial. This can be achieved by following a 7-part framework involving clarifying roles, seeking permission, contextualising advice, encouraging reflection, balancing enquiry and advocacy, reiterating autonomy and providing tools rather than solutions.

This 7-part approach enhances the coachee’s learning experience without disempowering them, while ensuring that the coachee remains at the centre of the process, feeling supported, respected, and empowered to make their own informed decisions.
